Personal Statement

I believe we are all created for authentic connection, and that being loved and known are core needs. It is my priority to see you, hear you, and fully value you so we can journey through your pain together towards healing, freedom, and purposeful living. I will help you understand yourself more deeply so you grow more confident to explore and take new risks in your life and relationships.

I specialize in helping adults, creatives, & Christians with both “type A” and “type B” trauma to move towards a more secure identity and ability to have meaningful relationships. Type A is about the absence of attachment needs you didn’t get growing up – nurture, protection, consistency, support, and emotional connection. Type B is about overwhelming, distressing bad events that happened to you – violence, sudden loss, sexual assault, etc. I also treat anxiety, phobias, depression, dissociation, relationship issues, unwanted sexual behavior, and church hurt / spiritual concerns. I have additional experience helping people in Christian ministry and missions. I consider the whole person – mind, body, soul, spirit – and welcome all parts of you here. I’m honored to immerse myself in your story & make your healing and growth my priority.

I grew up in Northern Virginia, have lived and traveled to many cities both domestic and abroad. I live in Rogers Park with my husband and consider Chicago home. Prior to entering the mental health field, I was in the performing arts (concert dance) and then in ministry / missions serving women locally and overseas. I value humor, depth, learning, justice, community, faith, and forgiveness. I enjoy traveling, cooking & baking, dancing, jamming to music, plants, home projects, reading, and hiking.

Approach to Therapy

In session – I approach therapy with a strong emphasis on attachment, brain science, and cultural context, with my primary goal being to understand what it has been like to be you so that we work together at your pace towards your goals for growth. I want to understand how you see yourself and see others and help make sense of it through the lens of your story. Every dysfunctional thought, belief, and behavior starts to make perfect sense when we understand it in the context of your lived experiences – this breaks the power of shame. I listen closely for and slow down to honor your strengths, courage and resilience as we work together – perhaps no one ever has before. I will also slowly and compassionately work together with you through painful experiences as you express readiness to face them.

Outside session – As a therapist it is important to me to remain a learner that stays current with what is happening in the field and also be a therapist who does my own emotional work. Research and advances are constantly happening, and if we don’t keep learning, we grow stagnant. Therefore, I make it my priority to receive regular consultation, attend trainings, and continue to read on clinical topics so I can confidently apply research-based approaches to your concerns. I also believe it is vital that we as therapists do our own work – I cannot take you further than I have been willing to go in dealing with my own pain. Therefore, I have done a great deal of my own therapy and make it my priority to regularly tend to my own heart, spiritual life, and relationships so that I can show up for you as healthily as possible.
